'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' was shut down 2 days into production for a ridiculous reason

40 year old virgin

In an interview featured in his new book, "Sick in The Head," Judd Apatow revealed that his successful directorial debut, "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," initially had some trouble getting off the ground.

Just two days into the film's production, Universal Studios shut the movie down — for reasons that Apatow finds "really silly" in retrospect.

"They thought Steve Carell looked like a serial killer," he said.

"They thought Paul Rudd was fat," added Leslie Mann, Apatow's wife.

In addition, the studio took issue with the fact that Apatow was "lighting [the film] like an indie," and the resulting shut down "cost themselves half a million dollars."

In order to get production going again, the cast and crew had to make some adjustments.

paul rudd 40 year old virgin"Paul went on a diet. He literally stopped eating," Mann said. "If you look at Paul Rudd in the speed-dating sequence compared to the rest, he's, like, ten pounds heavier. Then in the rest of the movie his hair looks cute and he's thinner."

As for the titular character, Andy Stitzer, Steve Carell toned down the "serial killer" vibes by making Andy less intense.

"Steve decided the character would be a little more Buster Keaton-esque," Apatow said. "He was low-energy and everyone else was spinning around him."

Eventually, Apatow and the studio patched things up, and the speed-dating sequence stayed in, despite the studio's notes.

"Everything we shot in those first two days became some of the funniest stuff in the movie," Apatow said.

Apatow's book, "Sick in The Head," is available now and features 32 years worth of his interviews with famous comedians — from Jerry Seinfeld in 1983, when Apatow was "just a 15-year-old kid with a tape recorder," to Jimmy Fallon in 2015.

'Inside Out' sets record for biggest original box office debut; 'Jurassic World' will be fastest to $1 billion

inside out

Though Pixar’s latest movie, “Inside Out,” is the first project ever from the studio not to open number one at the box office, it did make some history.

The film's $91.1 million domestic opening weekend makes “Inside Out” the largest debut ever for an original property (a non-sequel and non-sourced work). That surpasses the previous record holder, 2009’s “Avatar,” which opened with $77 million.

Projections last week had “Inside Out” grossing in the neighborhood of $60 million over the weekend, but thanks to overwhelming critical response and a 51% drop in ticket sales for “Jurassic World,” the film is the second biggest Pixar opening. Behind “Toy Story 3,” which had an opening weekend of $110.3 million.

But that doesn’t mean “Jurassic World” — which had the highest-grossing opening weekend ever last week — didn’t do well its second weekend in theaters.

jurassic world chris pratt jessica chastainThe blockbuster was number one at the box office once more with $102 million (“Inside Out” came in second), making it the second-largest second weekend opening of all time, just behind “The Avengers” at 103.1 million.

And with a worldwide gross to-date of $981 million, “Jurassic World” will likely become the fastest film to earn $1 billion worldwide.

“Furious 7” currently has the record, taking only 17 days to do it.

“World” will likely do it in 13 days.

jurassic world"Jurassic World" has done the unthinkable.

Not only does the film hold the record for highest-grossing opening weekend, but, for a second week in a row, the fourth film in the "Jurassic Park" franchise brought in over $100 million at the box office, making it the second movie ever, after 2012's "Avengers," to accomplish that feat.

It's also now the fastest film to hit $1 billion in just 13 days.

Previously, that record belonged to "Furious 7," another Universal film, which broke the record in 17 days.

The "Fast and Furious" sequel has made over $1.5 billion at the box office to date.

Back in February, the studio's "Fifty Shades of Grey" adaptation had the best-opening weekend at the box office for that month and one of the largest openings for an R-rated film. It has now made over $569 million worldwide on an estimated $40 million budget.

While all three films grossly outperformed analyst expectations, Marvel Studios' "Avengers" sequel crossed the billion-dollar number in 24 days.

If you asked anyone last year, their predictions for the biggest films of the year would have been a no-brainer: The "Avengers" sequel in May followed by the next "Star Wars" installment come December.

Disney was easily set to dominate the box office with those two films alone.

Early projections for "Star Wars" sit between $1.75 billion and $3 billion. Anything over $2.7 billion would give it the all-time box office record, topping 2009's "Avatar."

chewbacca harrison ford the force awakensUniversal sure isn't making it easy.

Don't forget the studio is also responsible for the "Pitch Perfect" sequel which had a big $69 million opening. A third film has already been announced with stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson set to return.

And, with another big film out in July in a "Despicable Me" spinoff, "Minions," Universal may very well have its third billion-dollar movie on its way. "Despicable Me 2" made over $970 million during its 2013 run at theaters.

NOW WATCH: WHERE ARE THEY NOW? The original 1993 'Jurassic Park' cast today

It’s stunning how the all-star cast for Netflix’s highly anticipated ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ hasn’t aged

The only actor from 'Jurassic Park' to star in 'Jurassic World' was skeptical to return

BD Wong Chuck Zlotnick Universal.JPGFollowing the two sequels to the 1993 smash hit “Jurassic Park,” actor BD Wong realized he had to take things into his own hands.

As Dr. Henry Wu in “Jurassic Park,” the chief engineer responsible for the recreation of the dinosaurs in the park, there was never any resolution to what happened to the character.

Did he get eaten by his creations once the park lost power and roamed free? Did he make it on one of the last boats off the island?

The character's absence in any followup sequels led to years of people asking Wong what happened to Dr. Wu. Finally, the actor was ready to finally give the fans what they wanted.

“I was at the point where I wanted to make some videos to put online showing what happened to him,” Wong told Business Insider. “Silly things for the fans, like he somehow ended up with the shaving cream can.” Referring to the infamous Barbasol can filled with dinosaur embryos that dropped out of Dennis Nedry’s coat when he was attacked by a Dilophosaurus in “Jurassic Park.”

shaving cream canBut before he could follow through on his zany idea the phone rang, and it was “Jurassic Word” director Colin Trevorrow.

A year before “Jurassic World” went into production, Trevorrow reached out to the actor and asking if he would like to reprise the role of Dr. Wu.

“I was like, ‘Sure, of course, that sounds great,’” Wong recalled. “I didn’t really take it that seriously because things change all the time.”

Wong knows that from first-hand experience.

The 54 year old is a veteran character actor having worked on “Law & Order: SVU” for 11 years playing Dr. George Huang and starring in countless movies since the 1980s. But when he got the call to play Dr. Wu the first time around in “Jurassic Park” he thought it would bring him to the next level.

Mainly, because of the size of the Dr. Wu character in the book. In which he stays on the island with the others to regain power to the park.

“I was actually hired from auditions I did that were scenes taken from the book,” said Wong, referring to the Michael Crichton novel the movie is based on.

“So imagine my surprise when I got a call that I was working on the movie for one day,” he said.

BD Wong Jurassic ParkThough his character was stripped bare, Wong got over it quickly because being on a movie of that magnitude definitely helped him get more work.

But when Trevorrow came calling 20-plus years later, Wong was a bit skeptical.

“I think he might have sensed that I was sensitive to their not being much to [the character],” he said. “He was courting me in a way.”

As Wong predicted, it was months following that first call with Trevorrow when he finally got word that Dr. Wu was going to be in the film.

But how they had fleshed out the Dr. Wu character was beyond Wong’s expectations.

“The character was coming full circle but also they were giving him his due in some way,” Wong said. “They were making him into a three-dimensional person and I liked that.”

In “Jurassic World,” Dr. Wu is now the head of the division that clones dinosaurs and has pushed the boundaries of cloning. He's in charge of developing bigger, and more dangerous creatures to keep fans of the theme park returning for more.

BD Wong Chuck Zlotnigh Universal2.JPGDr. Wu’s major scene comes after his newest creation, the Indominus Rex, has escaped and the park’s owner Simon Masrani (Irrfan Khan) comes to Dr. Wu for answers. Like in “Jurassic Park,” Dr. Wu gives the audience a better understanding of what our heroes are up against. But this time Trevorrow wanted the character to have an added layer.

“We’re about to shoot my big scene with Simon Masrani, Colin comes over to me and says, ‘You know, I think Wu he should say, ‘All of this is because of me,’” Wong recalls.

The line was not in the script, and Wong was instantly taken-aback that Trevorrow would let a lower-tier character say a line of such magnitude.

“I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ But I said the line in every take from that point on,” Wong said. “But I thought they were never going to use that. Or Universal would not let them use it. That’s just too much of a commitment.”

BD Wong Frazer HarrisonBut it was left in. And that chilling line presented the audience with a side of Dr. Wu they didn’t see coming. A person so full of himself that he now has a God complex. The importance of Dr. Wu to the story is confirmed in his last scene when we see him fly off Jurassic World with a suitcase full of dino embryos.

So, will we see Dr. Wu if there are sequels to “Jurassic World”?

Wong is as curious as we are.

“I'm not even being coy, I don't have any idea,” he said. “I read the movie and had the same reaction that most all people are having in regards to that. So if you're the kind of person who's inclined to root for that thing to happen then there's a certain amount of encouragement there.”

Is Wong one of those people rooting for that?

“I think I am,” he said, “because now you can tell that the potential [for the character] is really great.”

Everything you need to know about Tom Holland, the 19-year-old cast as the new Spider-Man

Tom Holland

The next Spider-Man has been cast, and his name is Tom Holland.

The British 19-year-old actor is the youngest to ever take on the role, and like Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire before him, he is far from a household name at the time of his casting. However, as a younger star, he has even fewer credits to his name — so there's precious little for fans to go on if they're curious as to how good of a fit he'd be.

Fortunately, what little there is happens to be very, very good.

Holland's calling card is the 2012 film "The Impossible," where he plays Lucas, a real-life survivor of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. It's powerful stuff, and Holland is at the center of it all. But what's also interesting about Holland's performance in the movie is the way he talks about it.

Take a look at this interview with Celebs.com — Holland remains thoughtful and humble throughout, not only talking up his craft but also the contributions of the entire cast and crew. He's an extremely articulate guy, and this was in 2013.

That same year, Holland appeared as Isaac in the Saorise Ronan-led "How I Live Now ," based on the 2004 novel of the same name by Meg Rosoff. It's a smaller role for Holland than "The Impossible," but still weighty in its fictional World War III setting.

That's more or less it as far as Tom Holland's major roles go. He appears as Gregory Cromwell in BBC Two's recent miniseries adaptation of Hilary Mantel's "Wolf Hall," but as you can tell by the trailer, the story is more about his father, Thomas Cromwell.

Outside of that, Holland maintains a modest social media presence on Twitter and Instagram, where he seems fond of flipping, which makes sense for the future Spider-Man.

The strangest bit about Holland's casting is that he's the first actual teenager to take on the role — both Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield were in their mid-to-late-twenties when cast. While he won't be a teenager for much longer, it's great to see that Marvel and Sony have agreed on casting someone closer in age and appearance to real-life high-school teens. Spider-Man, really, is the first great teen superhero — that's what makes him special. In that sense, it's always been curious to see the films so eager to age Peter Parker up and get him out of high school.

Now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally has a teen superhero — which is something it desperately needs

Actor BD Wong blames 'racial exclusion in Hollywood' for his small role in 'Jurassic Park'

BD Wong Frazer HarrisonA big reason for the historic box office success of “Jurassic World” is due to its nostalgia for the original 1993 hit, “Jurassic Park.”

Lowery’s vintage t-shirt with the original logo, the kids riding around in one of the old jeeps from the first film, and the return of Dr. Henry Wu are just some of the goodies you can find in the new movie that reference the original.

But the actor who plays Dr. Wu, BD Wong, says there’s one thing “World” has done much better than “Park” — ethnic diversity.

“Twenty-two years ago it was Sam Jackson and me,” said Wong. “I think that was pretty much it.

wong jurassic finalBut in "World," says Wong, "It’s truly diverse.”

BD Wong Chuck Zlotnick Universal.JPGThe actor has a point.

Along with Wong (who is of Chinese descent) returning, the park in “Jurassic World” is run by a character played by Indian actor Irrfan Khan.

Irrfan KhanAnd the character Barry, who ttrains raptors alongside Owen (Chris Pratt), is of West African descent (Omar Sy).

omar syThen there are the park guests.

“There’s 22,000 truly diverse people at the park,” Wong points out. “If you’re me you really notice that. They really took pains to make that a really international looking crowd.”

Jurassic World theme parkHe believes “racial exclusion in Hollywood” is one of the reasons his Dr. Wu character was scaled down to a single scene in “Jurassic Park.” In Michael Crichton’s book on which the film is based, Dr. Wu has a major presence.

“When you’re an ethnic actor you always have to question why this character got scaled down so much,” Wong told BI. “You go, ‘Oh, darn, this is an opportunity that got wasted.’ Because the movie needs to be Caucasian-centric in order for the filmmakers to feel that they need to succeed and reach people.”

BD Wong Jurassic ParkWong believes “Jurassic World” is a great step forward in Hollywood dealing with its lack of diversity issue, but there’s still a long way to go.

“We’re still far, far away from where parts that Bryce [Dallas Howard] and Chris [Pratt] play would go to ethnic people.”

Channing Tatum didn’t always have a say in what he starred in.

In fact, there’s one film in particular he wishes could be taken off his filmography — 2009’s “G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra.

At the time, Tatum was just trying to get his foot into Hollywood. He had a small role in “Coach Carter” opposite Samuel L. Jackson, opened eyes with his acting abilities in the indie “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints,” and long before “Magic Mike” he showed off his moves in the dance movie “Step Up.

channing tatum step up finalHis star was on the rise and soon got a three-picture deal at Paramount.

But as he told Howard Stern this week, he did not want to do the first project the studio offered him, which was “G.I. Joe.”

“Look, I’ll be honest, I f------ hate that movie,” he told Stern. “I was pushed into doing that movie…They give you the contract and they go, ‘Three picture deal, here you go!’ And as a young [actor] you're like, ‘Oh my God, that sounds amazing, I’m doing that!’”

gi joe poster

Tatum said his main reason why he didn’t want to do the "G.I. Joe" project was that “the script wasn’t any good.”

When Stern asked if he had an option to pass on the project, Tatum said, “[There’s] no option. ‘You’re doing this or we’re going to sue you.’”

“The Rise of the Cobra” grossed over $300 million worldwide.

Tatum admits he’s “lucky and blessed” to have had that success but what it basically led to was “another ‘G.I. Joe’ script.”

He did star in the sequel, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” but the film only grossed around $75 million more worldwide than the first. Even with new additions Bruce Willis and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

According to Tatum in the Stern interview, the calls he got after the success of the first “G.I. Joe” were for more action movies. But he didn’t want to be an action star.

This is evident as he’s gone on to star in the hit “21 Jump Street" comedy franchise while also taking on dramatic roles like the Oscar-nominated “Foxcatcher.

Here’s why they don't sing the 'Happy Birthday' song in movies and TV shows

Ever wonder why you rarely hear the “Happy Birthday” song in movies and TV shows?

There’s a simple reason — it costs a lot of money to use it.

That’s right, the song that Guinness World Records in 1998 called the most recognized in the English language is under copyright. It’s owned by Warner Music Group, and for decades they have charged a license fee for the use of the song and rake in around $2 million a year in fees.

Movies and TV shows that feature a birthday party get around the fee by never completing the song (someone will come in and interrupt the singing), by singing “For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow” (which is in the public domain), or by just not singing at all when it’s cake time.

But some filmmakers do pay the fee because they feel it’s important for the song to be featured. For the classic 1994 documentary "Hoop Dreams," filmmaker Steve James said he paid $5,000 for use of the song in a scene where one of his main characters celebrates his 18th birthday. It was a major feat for the film’s subject, as he and his family lived in a section of Chicago with a high murder rate. The total budget for the film was around $700,000.

hoop dreams cake finalThe 2003 documentary, “The Corporation,” notes that Warner has charged as high as $10,000 for the song to appear in a film.

The melody for “Happy Birthday” goes back to 1893, when sisters Patty and Mildred J. Hill introduced the song “Good Morning to All” to Patty’s kindergarten class in Kentucky.

But this is when things get interesting.

As the “Good Morning to All” songs began getting passed around from school to school at some point — there’s no definitive date or who was responsible — the lyrics “Happy Birthday to You” appeared. However, the melody stayed the same.

In 1935 a piano arrangement of the melody was copyrighted by a company later known as Birch Tree Group.

In 1988, Warner Music Group acquired the song from Birch Tree for around $25 million

However, a filmmaker recently brought a lawsuit in a New York court that may change everything.

Jennifer Nelson has been making a documentary about the “Happy Birthday” song since 2013. To her surprise the song wasn't free, and to use it legally Warner was going to charge her $1,500

This led her to file a lawsuit in June 2013 seeking the court to declare that the song is in the public domain.

Meaning free for anyone to use for any purpose.

Nelson’s company, Good Morning to You Productions Corp, claimed

"Irrefutable documentary evidence, some dating to 1893, shows that the copyright to ‘Happy Birthday to You,’ if there ever was a valid copyright to any part of the song, expired no later than 1921.”

It went on to state that if Warner has any claim to the song it’s specifically to the piano arrangement it bought from Birch Tree in 1935.

“Significantly, no court has ever adjudicated the validity or scope of the defendant's claimed interest in ‘Happy Birthday to You,’ nor in the song's melody or lyrics, which are themselves independent works,” reads the claim.

Business Insider reached out to Nelson (who is currently shopping around her film for distribution) on Tuesday to get an update on the lawsuit. Through her lawyer, Mark C. Rifkin, she states that a decision to determine whether “the copyright protects just the piano arrangement rather than the song itself” could be made by the judge as early as this summer.

Here's why Marvel won't be at San Diego Comic-Con

avengers age of ultronFor the first time in four years, Marvel won't be heading to San Diego Comic-Con

Marvel's panel in the coveted Hall H is usually one of the biggest, most-anticipated ones at the annual fan event, which will be held July 9-12 at the San Diego Convention Center.

The news may have come as a shock to fans heading to the convention.

Now, we have some more insight into why Marvel won't be going all out this July in San Diego.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel studio president Kevin Feige opened up on why Marvel will be sitting this one out.

It was just timing. We had done that [media] event in October, when we announced so much. Everyone knows what we’re doing over the next few years. I really have a belief: If you can’t go to Comic-Con and overdeliver, then don’t go.

That makes sense.

The "event" Feige is referencing was a huge press and fan event held October 28, 2014 where the studio president announced nine films that will be part of Marvel's future film schedule through 2019, including two more "Avengers" films.

marvel studios kevin feigeNormally, this is news that would be announced at Comic-Con, and since it was all revealed last fall, Marvel probably doesn't have too much more to announce other than casting or directors for some of these upcoming titles.

The next "Captain America" film, "Captain America: Civil War," only just recently started production, so it probably would have been difficult to get the stars out to San Diego for the event. That will hit theaters in April 2016.

Marvel's other 2016 film, "Doctor Strange," a new addition to the MCU starring fan favorite Benedict Cumberbatch, is starting filming soon.

Director Scott Derrickson told fans Tuesday he was on his way to London to begin filming.

Marvel is well aware that DC / Warner Bros. will be bringing out the big guns. No doubt to show off its lineup of hugely-anticipated movies for next year. Not only do they have "Batman v Superman" out in March, but there's also the adaptation of the "Suicide Squad,"a comic series which revolves around DC anti-heroes and villains working on covert missions for the government. It's a risky film since most of the characters involved (Captain Boomerang/El Diablo/Plastique) are obscure to someone who's not a fan of the comic or familiar with DC characters.

suicidesquadcast2It's kind of difficult to compete with that when Marvel's next movie "Ant-Man" is out July 17 — the week after Comic-Con. There's not much else to say about the film that hasn't been out in the media already.

As Feige said — you need to go big or go home.

And right now doesn't make any sense.

How do you take on DC's Caped Crusader?

With Star Wars.

chewbacca harrison ford the force awakensInstead of making way for Marvel, Hall H will be utilized for another Disney-owned property with a huge fandom.

Friday, July 10, Hall H will be home to a massive panel for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which will be released December 2015. Not only will the panel include Lucasfilm president and "The Force Awakens" producer Kathleen Kennedy, but director J.J. Abrams will also be on hand.

"Special guests" will also make appearances.

And we're sure attendees will get a first-look at some new footage for the film — at the very least, a new trailer.

So yeah, no one's worried about Marvel sitting this one out.

Maybe Marvel's saving some big announcements and footage for October when New York Comic Con will occur.

Paramount Pictures hosted an early fan screening of its next "Terminator" film, "Terminator: Genisys" Wednesday evening in New York City.

Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the screening on Reddit several days ago

Wednesday evening, Schwarzenegger, the Terminator himself, showed up at the beginning of the screening to introduce the film and to tell fans how happy he was with the film.

"I'm really proud of this movie," Schwarzenegger told the crowd. "Proud that I was part of it. Proud that I was asked to come back after 30 years of having done the first 'Terminator' movie. I had a lot of fun doing it even though it was hard work."

"While you're watching the movie, I will be doing three interviews that I still have to do, and then I will come back and then you have the Q&A that you can ask any questions that you want," he continued.

The last part was the kicker which really amped up the crowd: "And then we gonna do some selfies!"

We caught his greeting on camera. Apologies ahead of time for the lighting. All of the lighting except a spotlight were off in the theater.

Check it out below.

After the film ended, Schwarzenegger returned for a nearly half hour Q&A with the crowd.

Afterward, as promised, the Governator posed for selfies with each and every person who came to the screening.

You literally could not exit the theater until you took a photo with Arnold.

Arnold Schwarzenegger: The majority of people in Hollywood said I'd never make it as an actor

arnold schwarzenegger terminator

Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the biggest action stars of the '80s and '90s known for roles including "Conan" and "Terminator."

So it's hard to believe anyone could tell him he would have never made it in Hollywood, but Schwarzenegger says that's exactly what happened to him.

During a Q&A with the actor after a screening of "Terminator: Genisys," a fan asked Schwarzenegger about his legacy and what it's like to be an icon of the '80s and '90s to so many.

Though at first the actor joked that "it feels great being me," Schwarzenegger then expressed how thankful and lucky he has been to have his career, one he says Hollywood continuously told him would never happen.

I have to say that I'm very fortunate that I've had this extraordinary career. Not only in acting and in show business but also in bodybuilding ...

That I was able to bridge over to acting even though the majority of people in Hollywood said it would never happen because of my accent because of my body being overly developed, and because of my name — that wouldn't be able to pronounce. All those kinds of excuses. So, I did not listen to the naysayers and was just going after my vision. I was very happy it then worked out.

Schwarzenegger said he received similar feedback when he ran for office in California in 2003.

"When I wanted to be a public servant and serve the people of California, I also was able to do that even though everyone said it would never happen, and I didn't have the experience, and why would the people elect me? I didn't listen to the naysayers then either, and it happened."

"All of this, brought me great joy and great happiness, but it wouldn't have happened if I wouldn't have come to the greatest country in the world — America," he added.

"Terminator: Genisys" is in theaters July 1.

terminator game final

For some going to see “Terminator Genisys” starting July 1 will mean having the chance to do something other than text or stare at the advertisements on the big screen before the movie starts.

Paramount has announced it is releasing an interactive game to be played on mobile devices before the film begins at select AMC IMAX locations.

The game is the first-ever in-theater interactive video game.

Here’s what you do.

Audience members who want to play take their seat in the theater and will be invited to join a closed and secure Wi-Fi network (no download or sign-in required).

Players will be randomly assigned to one of four teams to fight a wave of Terminators in three different settings from “Terminator Genisys.” Audience members point their phones at the theater screen while clicking a button appearing on their home screen to "shoot and kill" Terminator cyborgs.

terminator gameThe game lasts three minutes and cannot be played once the movie begins.

The winning team at each showing of the participating theaters will receive a limited edition collectible “Terminator Genisys” poster (until July 2, or while supplies last).

Participating theaters are:
New York (AMC Lincoln Square IMAX 13)
Los Angeles (AMC Universal CityWalk 19 with IMAX)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon IMAX 16)
Boston (AMC Boston Commons IMAX 19)
Dallas (AMC Northpark IMAX 15)

The game, created by Audience Entertainment with Paramount Pictures, is available for iOS and Android phones.

“For the first time ever, moviegoers can engage with each other in an interactive, digital setting from their own theater seats,” said Megan Wahtera, Senior Vice President of Interactive Marketing, Paramount Pictures in a press release. “This unique opportunity is a great way to bring rich online experiences to the big screen to celebrate the release of ‘Terminator Genisys.’”

The game is based on the just-released “Terminator Genisys: Revolution” game, created by Glu Mobile.

'Jurassic World' actor BD Wong says there was 'ridiculous' security required to read the script

BD Wong Jurassic World

There’s a common practice in Hollywood — the bigger the film, the more mystery surrounding the making of it.

But it seems “Jurassic World” went next level to keep all of its goodies unknown until its release.

Actor BD Wong, who plays Dr. Henry Wu in both “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic World,” told Business Insider that the level of secrecy used for him to read the script for both films was unlike anything he’s ever experienced in his 30-plus year career.

“You read it in a really weird way,” he tells BI.

Wong said soon after he was told he’d star in “Jurassic World,” he was given instructions on how to get a hold of the script.

wong jurassic final“You could only read the script in the office during a certain hour of the day,” he said. “I had to go drive to the production office, you’re in this room, you read the whole script, and then give it back to them. I had to do the same thing for ‘Jurassic Park.’”

And to bring another layer of camouflage to the project, the script Wong read was given a dummy title, “Ebb Tide.”

“You’d be driving around and you’d be looking for signs to the ‘Ebb Tide’ production office,” Wong recalls.

Looking at the grand scheme of things, Wong admits this process does seem “ridiculous.” “Given the state of the world and things that are really important — life or death — this seemed hilarious,” said Wong.

But it did get the job done.

“No one leaked anything,” he said.

3 huge movies at the box office this weekend may lead to a record-breaking month

With “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane’s latest movie “Ted 2” hitting theaters this weekend, an already fruitful June box office may become historic.

On the heels of the incredible openings for “Jurassic World” and “Inside Out,The Wrap is reporting that with “Ted 2” in the mix, June 2015 might become the highest-grossing month in box office history.

June has earned $920 million to date, according to Rentrak from The Wrap story, and if projections for this weekend are correct, it could surpass the $1.39 billion record held by July of 2011.

Back then the big hitters were “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 2” and "Captain America: The First Avenger."

“Ted 2,” the raunchy comedy reteaming Mark Wahlberg with a foul-mouthed CGI teddy bear (voiced by MacFarlane), is tracking to make between $50 and $55 million this weekend. “Jurassic World” and “Inside Out” should also land around that range, according to The Wrap.

So along with the potential of making the month the biggest grosser ever, it will be fascinating to see which of the three will take the number one spot this weekend.

“I think whoever gets to $55 million will take it,” Exhibitor Relations senior analyst Jeff Bock told The Wrap, “but we might not know until Monday.”

marvel civil war

Now that the new Spider-Man/Peter Parker has been cast and we know a little more about him, the next question on the mind of fans is a natural one: When will we see him in action?

Turns out the answer is "about nine months," as Marvel just confirmed a long-standing rumor — Spider-Man will be appearing in next year's "Captain America: Civil War."

Tom HollandThe news was tucked away in a lengthy Hollywood Reporter interview with Marvel Studios top dog Kevin Feige and "Ant-Man" star Paul Rudd. According to THR, newly-cast Spidey star Tom Holland will "immediately" fly out to the "Civil War" set for Spider-Man's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. (In an interesting tidbit — Holland has already screen tested opposite Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans as a part of the lengthy vetting process).

spiderman airplaneThere's no word on how substantial Spidey's role will be in the film, and it's kind of hard to guess based on the source material.

In the "Civil War" comic book, Spider-Man is essentially the moral center of the story, the character caught in the ideological tug-of-war between Captain America and Iron Man. The rift between the two emerges over the issue of superhero registration — Iron Man sides with the government and believes that superheroes declare their secret identities, undergo training and enlist in government service, while Captain America holds that registration is a violation of civil liberties and gives too much power to the government.

This is kind of hard to imagine working as well in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where secret identities aren't really a thing and almost every hero has worked for a government organization in some capacity or another.  What's more, Marvel movies have never been close adaptations of the comics, but remixes of their greatest hits — even when a movie is named after a particular story (like "Captain America: The Winter Soldier") it usually plays fast and loose with the source material.

Also, let's not forget that the "Civil War" movie is already absolutely stuffed with characters, with almost every Avenger except Hulk and Thor appearing. Logistically, it's hard to imagine anyone getting significant screen time.

Either way, it's great to know we're getting an MCU Spider-Man so soon — and, according to Kevin Feige, Marvel's deal with Sony works both ways — MCU characters can appear in Sony's new Holland-starring Spider-Man movie, currently scheduled for July 2017.

Be sure to check out the whole interview for more on Marvel's plans, and a surprisingly frank discussion about the studio's rocky "Ant-Man" development.

Arnold Schwarzenegger fought with James Cameron over one deleted scene in 'Terminator 2'

Terminator 2

"Terminator 2: Judgment Day" is arguably one of the greatest sequels of all time.

Rather than imitating the original, it pushed this world forward and turned Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from terrifying villain to heroic savior.

But making something this good isn't always a smooth ride. "Terminator 2" had to go through multiple changes before ruling the box office in 1991. The ending was originally much happier. And then, they needed to cut the film's running time down even more.

During a Q&A Schwarzenegger gave after a "Terminator Genisys" fan screening in New York on Wednesday, the actor was asked if there were any scenes cut from the film that he disagreed with the director about.

While Schwarzenegger couldn't recall anything from "Genisys," he remembered an argument he and director James Cameron had over which scene should be cut in order to shorten the film's running time.

"There was a disagreement I remember on the second 'Terminator' because we screened the movie and it was two hours and twenty minutes," said Schwarzenegger. "And so I said to James Cameron, 'The movie's too long.' And he says to me, 'Why do you say that?' It just felt like to me at a certain point, okay, let's get it done."

After some struggle, Cameron decided to cut a scene in which Sarah (Linda Hamilton) and John Connor (Edward Furlong) have to remove Terminator's brain.

"It was shot in a very remarkable way with the mirror effect and all this stuff. And it was a three minute and thirty second scene." Schwarzenegger remembered.

There was just one problem.

Schwarzenegger loved that scene.

"He says I'm gonna take that scene out to shorten the movie ... just to pay me back," said Arnold. "And, I said to him, 'No, no! That's one of my favorite scenes! You can't take that out!'"

'He says 'No, I have to, because that's the way we shorten the movie. Then I have to work on some other scenes,'" recalled Schwarzenegger.

Terminator 2Terminator 2 "And so he took that scene out and we had a little fight about that." Schwarzenegger said.

Though he was upset to let the scene go, he understands that this is what had to be done. After all, cutting the movie down was his idea in the first place.

"But then I had to let it go because we wanted to cut down the length of the movie." Schwarzenegger said.

Schwarzenegger will be back as T-800 in "Terminator Genisys," which will be out in theaters on July 1.
