Robert Pattinson: 'I've Never Been Interested In Trying To Sell My Personal Life'

No amount of food will make Robert Pattinson open up about his recent breakup with actress Kristen Stewart.

He just wants to talk movies.

The "Twilight" actor started making the rounds this week in New York City to promote his new film, "Cosmopolis," but rather, has found himself baited with sweet treats to discuss the "elephant in the room."

Jon Stewart brought out Ben and Jerry's ice cream for the actor on Monday night's "The Daily Show," to get the actor to open up during his first interview since the couple's split, joking they were "just two gals catching up."

However, the actor remained silent about his "Twilight" costar.

This morning on Good Morning America, George Stephanopoulos tried his luck by playfully presenting Pattinson with a box of cereal.

"We did our research, and I thought it was more appropriate for breakfast, your favorite cereal, Cinnamon Toast Crunch," said Stephanopoulos.

Urging him to dig in and then complimenting his "gripping" performance in "Cosmopolis," the GMA anchor dived right into addressing what's on "everyone's mind."

"Everybody just wants to know how are you doing? And, what do you want your fans to know about what's going on in your personal life?"

Take a look at Pattinson's initial response from the question as he goes from blank stare to nervous in four seconds.

Pattinson diverted the question, taking a drawn out sip from a GMA mug, and looking every which way but at Stephanopoulos before stumbling over his words and making it about his fans and his "favorite" cereal.

"I'd like my fans to know that Cinnamon Toast Crunch only has 30 calories a bowl in it for instance," said Pattinson.

The actor followed up making sure Stephanopoulos and everyone knew the real reason he's making the rounds in New York this week.

"I've never been interested in trying to sell my personal life, and that's really the only reason people bring it up," Pattinson told GMA. "The reason you go on to TV is to promote movies ... That's the only way to do it."

Conversation quickly swung over to Pattinson's latest film.

Watch the interview below. Stephanopoulos asks Pattinson the big question at the :50 second mark.

'Bachelorette' Matches Record-Breaking 'Moonrise Kingdom' Opening Before It Even Hits Theaters

Bachelorette

Over Memorial Day weekend, Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom" grossed a record-breaking $523,000 from only four theaters. The film has since expanded and is steadily approaching a $50 million domestic total

This past weekend, another film debuted to over $500,000 its opening weekend. The theater count? Zero.

"Bachelorette" matched "Moonrise's" debut weekend through video on demand and iTunes. The movie doesn't hit theaters for another month. It's the first pre-theatrical release to reach the top of the iTunes charts.

The comedy can be described as "Bridesmaids" meets "The Hangover" and stars Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, and Lizzy Caplan as a trio of friends who get together for the wedding of a girl (Rebel Wilson) they used to torment in high school. Adam Scott and James Marsden also star.

Though it sounds like a no-brainer to cash in off the success of the two biggest comedic hits of the past few years with a wide theatrical release, the studio was worried that the characters were too unlikeable and would alienate the audience (note the trailer, where the group celebrates having cocaine for the night's festivities). As Hollywood.com noted, cocaine addiction isn't the same as food poisoning in a bridal shop.

So they decided to test the waters first with VOD, hoping the movie could find its audience without spending money on prints and advertising. The distribution plan was designed by RADiUS, a Weinstein company created to implement alternative, and cheaper, ways to release films.

“We are beyond thrilled to hit this milestone,” RADiUS co-presidents Tom Quinn and Jason Janego told Deadline. “From day one, our goal has always been to bring content to viewers when, where and how they want to see it… This achievement on iTunes gives us terrific momentum”.

Quinn also said that "Bachelorette's" VOD numbers exceed those of "Moonrise."

The success of this "female 'Hangover'"  helps legitimize VOD in the wake of news earlier this week that Warner Bros. shut down their direct-to-video label Warner Premiere, citing decline in the market.

With an estimated budget of only $3 million, a fraction of a typical studio budget, "Bachelorette" should turn a solid profit in no time. The big question is what this VOD success means for the film's theatrical release. Will everyone that wanted to see it have already seen it by then, or will this strategy play out like a great viral marketing campaign and lead to a successful theatrical run similar to "Moonrise?"

We'll find out when "Bachelorette" reaches theaters on September 7.

Check out both the trailer and actress Rebel Wilson discussing the movie below:

Jodie Foster Blasts Media In Defense Of Kristen Stewart

Jodie FosterFormer child star Jodie Foster doesn't like the way the public have been treating Kristen Stewart

After the 22-year-old "Twilight" actress recently got caught cheating on her boyfriend Robert Pattinson with her 41-year-old "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders, she has been ripped apart by the public

In an essay for The Daily Beast, Foster—Stewart's "Panic Room" co-star—defends the actress, saying how difficult it it's become to be in the public eye compared to when she was starting out.

"If I were a young actor today I would quit before I started," writes Foster. "If I had to grow up in this media culture, I don’t think I could survive it emotionally."

Jodie Foster Kriste Stewart Panic Room"Sarah Tobias would never have danced before her rapists in "The Accused." Clarice would never have shared the awful screaming of the lambs to Dr. Lecter. Another actress might surely have taken my place, opened her soul to create those characters, surrendered her vulnerabilities. But would she have survived the paparazzi peering into her windows, the online harassment, the public humiliations, without overdosing in a hotel room or sticking her face with needles until she became unrecognizable even to herself?"

Foster goes on to paint a portrait of what a typical day might be like for Stewart.

"A beautiful young woman strides down the sidewalk alone, head down, hands drawn into fists. She’s walking fast, darting around huge men with black cameras thrusting at her mouth and chest. “Kristen, how do you feel?” “Smile Kris!” “Hey, hey, did you get her?” “I got her. I got her!” The young woman doesn’t cry. F--- no. She doesn’t look up. She’s learned. She keeps her head down, her shades on, fists in her pockets. Don’t speak. Don’t look. Don’t cry."

Finally, Foster ends letting Stewart know that things will get better, and urges her remain strong.

"My mother had a saying that she doled out after every small injustice, every heartbreak, every moment of abject suffering. 'This too shall pass.' … The public horrors of today eventually blow away. And, yes, you are changed by the awful wake of reckoning they leave behind. You trust less. You calculate your steps. You survive. Hopefully in the process you don’t lose your ability to throw your arms in the air again and spin in wild abandon. That is the ultimate F.U. and—finally—the most beautiful survival tool of all. Don’t let them take that away from you."

Why Fox Is About To Lose The Rights To A 'Daredevil' Remake To Marvel

Daredevil

It looks like rights to "Daredevil," the blind superhero first portrayed on screen by Ben Affleck in 2003, will soon leave Fox and revert to Marvel Studios, owned by Disney.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the license for the comic property is up this week.

Production on a new "Daredevil" movie would have to begin before October 10 in order for Fox to retain the rights to the character. The studio has already received two extensions from Marvel on the film.

A few weeks ago, there was talk of Marvel giving Fox more time to make a "Daredevil" film in exchange for the rights to characters Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Fox declined the deal, likely wanting to retain them for their "Fantastic Four" franchise reboot.

"The Grey" director Joe Carnahan recently pitched a "Frank Miller-esque, hardcore 70s thriller" take on the superhero to Fox, and said it was well-received, but there wasn't enough time before the deadline to get it done.

Monday, Carnahan sent out a cryptic tweet regarding the matter:

Joe Carnahan tweet daredevil

Today he tweeted the following:

joe carnahan tweet daredevil

Fox currently holds the rights to other Marvel franchises, "X-Men" and "Fantastic Four," which are safe because both have projects in development. Under Disney, Marvel is trying to get their stable of heroes back. The company recently reacquired "Blade" from New Line.

With "Daredevil" most likely returning to Marvel, is it possible we could see the character in the upcoming "Avengers" sequel? Don't rule anything out. While writer-director Josh Whedon apparently already has a treatment  for the 2015 film ready, nothing is set in stone, and the studio may be wise to showcase the character in a minor role before giving him another standalone film.

If "Avengers" could get "Hulk" out of movie jail, surely the sequel could do the same for "Daredevil," whose first and only film had disappointing numbers similar to the the "Hulk" pics

It may be a while before "Daredevil" returns to theaters, but to see what a new movie might have looked like, check out Carnahan's pitch below:

Riley Keough

Today marks the 35th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death on August 16, 1977.

On Wednesday, thousands of fans converged at Graceland to commemorate the King and got a surprise welcome from the music superstar's former wife and daughter—marking the first time Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley have appeared together at the annual gathering.

Noticeably absent was Lisa Marie's beautiful, 23-year-old budding actress daughter: Riley Keough.

But Keough is busy shooting a "Mad Max" reboot in Africa alongside Charlize Theron and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, after starring in this summer's Steven Soderbergh-directed "Magic Mike."

And she has three films lined up after that.

From taking over the big screen today to modeling in her younger years, Keough, who was born 12 years after her famous grandfather died, has chosen to follow in her family's show business footsteps.

With Elvis officially gone for 35 years and Lisa Marie putting her music career on hold, it is Keough who is set to take her grandfather's place in the limelight.

May 29, 1989: Danielle Riley Keough is born to Lisa Marie Presley and Danny Keough. Riley, as she is called, is the eldest grandchild of Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

Riley (center) has one brother, Benjamin Storm Keough, and two half-sisters, twins Finley and Harper Lockwood—from her mother's current husband, musician Michael Lockwood.

Before Lockwood, Riley's stepfathers included Michael Jackson, who her mother Lisa Marie Presley was married to from 1994 to 1996 and Nicolas Cage, Presley's husband from 2002-2004. Check out the below family photo from elvis-postcards.com.

THE HOBBIT HEDGE: The Real Reason MGM Needs 'The Hobbit' Split Into 3 Movies

$

The Hobbit

The announcement late last month that the two previously planned "Hobbit" films would become three was met equally with applause and groans from fans and critics.

Forbes asked whether Warner Bros. — MGM's co-funder on the franchise — was getting greedy with another film.

(Note "The Lord of the Rings" is a $3 billion franchise, so there's plenty of incentive to create a new franchise trilogy, considering three-quels are faring pretty well these days.)

MGM, however, has the most riding on a third Hobbit film.

$500 million in debt

The company was on the verge of filing for bankruptcy protection in November 2010, but resurfaced after raising $500 million and announcing a plan to wipe out $5 billion in debt.

In February, MGM announced it obtained a $500 million credit facility to further manage its debt and build up its film and television business.

But according to MGM's Q2 financial report, its first filing since it reorganized, the studio's revenue declined by $85.5 million in the first six months of the year, from $393.3 million to $307.8 million.

It also lost $233.7 million in cash from its balance sheet in the last 6 months, after paying off $311 million in debt and spending another $147.5 million on operations.

That's why MGM needs "The Hobbit" to do as well as possible, and why fans are being asked to buy tickets for three movies instead of two or one.

The rocky Robo-reboot

Robocop

Currently, the studio is benefiting from the Bond franchise — "Quantum of Solace" made its television debut on USA in summer 2011 — and it's already promoting the "Hobbit." MGM spent $45 million, up $7.5 million from 2011, in the first six months on distribution and marketing expenses primarily to promote both films.

However, the studio has a big upcoming slate, with eight films to be released between now and 2013. Among them is "Robocop," with an estimated $80 million budget. According to the release, MGM has all its bets on Q4, with the 50th anniversary promotion for James Bond DVDs and the release of the latest Bond flick, "Skyfall," in November. There will also be further activation around "The Hobbit."

Now, it's looking likely the Robo-reboot may very well be a bust. Earlier this week, film critic and screenwriter Drew McWeeny took to Twitter ripping apart the remake after claiming to have read a version of the script.

mcweeny tweet

mcweeny tweet

The Hobbit Hedge

The first two Hobbit films are estimated to have cost $500 million. A third Hobbit film thus provides a safety net, especially since it would cost next to nothing to produce: "Hobbit" director Peter Jackson admitted he already had enough source material and left over footage from the first two films to expand into a third, cutting production costs.

Assuming "Skyfall" and "Hobbit" perform well this winter, MGM can breathe easy through 2014, the current schedule for the next two Hobbit movies.

Tom Hanks Producing JFK Assassination Film

$

Tom-HanksTom Hanks sure does love his history.

Variety is reporting the "Saving Private Ryan" star is re-teaming with his "Pacific" and "Band of Brothers" producing partner Gary Goetzman to make an independent film about the John F. Kennedy assassination under their Playtone Productions banner.

Peter Landesman penned the script and will direct for the first time.

The script is currently titled "Parkland," after the hospital where JFK, his assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, and Oswald's killer, Jack Ruby all died. The film will follow several characters including a doctor, reporter, Secret Service agent, Kennedy's staff, and Jackie Kennedy.

The Kennedys have been a presence in TV and film for five decades, with countless TV movies, miniseries, and documentaries devoted to various members of the family, historical events, assassinations, and resulting trails.

The most successful project is Oliver Stone's "JFK", which grossed  $205 million worldwide and garnered eight Oscar nominations in 1991.

Most were not as lucky. Emilio Estevez's "Bobby," based on the events at the Ambassador Hotel in the hours leading up to the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, didn't fare as well. The 2006 film opened to middling reviews and finished with a worldwide gross of $21 million.

Last year's miniseries "The Kennedys" moved from History channel to ReelzChannel after History worried historical inaccuracies would harm their brand. The $30 million miniseries starred Greg Kinnear as JFK and Katie Holmes as Jackie, and found a small 1.9 million viewers (to compare, History Channel's "Hatfields & McCoys" attracted 17 million viewers this may).

While not strictly a "Kennedy" movie, the upcoming film "The Butler" about a White House butler serving eight presidents over three decades, stars James Marsden as JFK and Minka Kelly as Jackie O, and may compete for the same audience as "Parkland."

No word yet on casting for Hanks' "Parkland" but he will likely stay behind the scenes as he did on "Pacific" and "Band of Brothers." If he chooses to act in it though, a big name like his in front of the camera might add the legitimacy to the project that could propel it to the success of Stone's "JFK."

This Week In Movie Trailers: Arnold Schwarzenegger Takes A 'Last Stand' And More

Arnold-Schwarzenegger

In this week's trailers, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone leave "The Expendables" for their own action films, and Colin Farrell leads a band of "Psychopaths."

Thor enlists Peeta to fight the North Koreans, and "Harry Potter" alums take on another classic novel.

Plus, James Franco takes "low budget indie" to a new level, and Channing Tatum goes to his high school reunion, which was apparently the coolest high school ever.

"10 Years" — September 14

Channing Tatum leads this cast of over a dozen upcoming stars getting together for their 10 year high school reunion. The film has a very 90's feel to it in the best way possible. Cheesy but heartfelt, this looks like the cast had fun making it, which the audience should appreciate.

"Seven Psychopaths" — October 12

While this trailer certainly looks promising, there's not nearly enough yet to justify the talk of a Woody Harrelson supporting Oscar nod. A quirky cast including Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken makes this Colin Farrell film worth paying attention to.

"Red Dawn" — November 21

We've already covered the tumultuous history of this project, but it looks like such over-the-top, pulpy fun, we're just glad it's finally coming out.

'The Expendables' Blasts Away The Competition–Here's Your Box-Office Roundup

the expendables chuck norris

With four new films out this weekend, there was only one clear winner at theaters.

"The Expendables 2" faced little competition from two new kid's films and a singing film featuring Jordin Sparks and the late Whitney Houston. Though the men took the box office this weekend, in the end, the film didn't outperform its predecessor.

Outside of the top ten, Robert Pattinson's "Cosmopolis," which opened in a limited-three theater release over the weekend, earned a huge $72,300.

Out of the top ten this week includes "Ice Age: Continental Drift," "Step Up Revolution," and "Ted" in its eighth week at theaters.

Here are this week's winners and losers at the box office:

10. The "Total Recall" remake dropped five spots this week earning $3.5 million. In three weeks the remake starring Colin Farrell is faring better overseas with $58.2 million foreign for a worldwide total of $109.9 million. More than a 1,000 theaters were shaved off the film's weekend schedule.

9. Kid flick "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" dropped three spots with $3.8 million. The film has now earned $44.7 million worldwide in three weeks. In comparison, its predecessor, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules" earned slightly more with $4.7 million in week three.

8. Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones' "Hope Springs" remains vibrant with $9.1 at theaters. The film dropped 37.9 percent from last week's earnings.

7. "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" grossed $10.9 million in its first week. The Disney film sees Jennifer Garner's return to film as the mother of a child who comes grown from the garden in her backyard. The actress' last big films were "Arthur" and "Valentine's Day" with opening weekends of $12.2 and $56.2 million respectively.

6. "The Dark Knight Rises" continues its run at theaters with another $11.1 million. Over the weekend the film passed "The Hunger Games" domestic gross of $407.6 million to become the second highest-grossing film of 2012 behind "The Avengers."

5. Whitney Houston's final film "Sparkle" debuted to an opening of $12 million. That's two million under the film's estimated budget of $14 million. The film received an A CinemaScore, good news for the future of the film in theaters.

4. "The Campaign" dropped nearly 50 percent in week two earning $13.3 million. The Will Ferrell comedy has now earned $53.8 million in two weeks.

3. "ParaNorman" proves the niche stop-motion animation audience. The kids' film grossed $14 million in week one. Compare this to similar films "Coraline" and "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" which earned $16.8 million and $11.1 million respectively.

2. "The Bourne Legacy" is down 55 percent in week two earning $17 million in week two. In comparison, previous film "Ultimatum" earned $32.8 million in its second week.

1. Though "The Expendables 2" takes the top spot this week with $28.7 million, it didn't beat out the first film which took in $34.8 million opening weekend.

WATCH: Obama Dishes About His 'Good Friend' George Clooney

Barack-Obama, Michelle-Obama

President Barack Obama took some time on the campaign trail to discuss the world's highest-profile bromance.

We knew they were friends, but after a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, it appears that Obama and his wife Michelle are downright smitten with actor George Clooney.

The couple gushed over the Oscar-winning actor and the POTUS insisted the only reason they don't keep in touch more is because Clooney is "low maintenance guy," and understands how it would look if they were seen together too often.

"He's very protective about not bothering me," said the president. "I think he's also sensitive to the fact that, you know, that if he's around a lot, then somehow it'll be tagged as 'Obama hanging out with Hollywood stars,' and that's not who he is. But he's a good person."

For her part, the First Lady admitted he's cute on multiple occasions. "It's a fact," she insisted.

The budding friendship began before Obama began his presidential campaign and the two got to know each other while advocating for the people of Darfur while Obama was still a Senator.

Clooney recently helped raise $15 million for Obama's reelection campaign.

This Movie Is On Pace To Become The Highest-Grossing Indian Film Of All Time

Tiger Bollywood

"The Avengers" may be the darling of Hollywood this summer, but overseas in Bollywood, there's another film gunning for the all-time record.

"Ek Tha Tiger" ("There Was A Tiger") grossed an India record Rupees 1 billion ($18 million) in its first five days of release, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It also set an opening day India record of Rupees 320 million ($5.8 million), beating January's "Agneepath" which opened to Rupees 210 million.

"Tiger" stars Bollywood sensation Salman Khan and is on pace to become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. The current record holder is 2009's "3 Idiots," which grossed Rupees 3.85 billion ($70 million).

The opening weekend success is not only attributed to the star power of Khan, but also the long opening weekend. "Tiger" opened last Wednesday, August 15, on India's independence day.

“More than box office performance, we are really happy that the audience has liked "Ek Tha Tiger." There is no other criteria for the success of any film,” said a spokesperson for the movie to The Hollywood Reporter.

Produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Kabir Khan, the film stars Salman Khan as an Indian spy on a mission to track down an Indian scientist (Roshan Seth) suspected of leaking secrets to Pakistan. During the mission Kahn falls for the scientist's caretaker (Katrina Kaif).

Things just got a little dicier for Paramount. After a disappointing first half of the year, the studio just lost the source of its only hit movie, "Madagascar 3."

DreamWorks Animation is moving from Paramount to Twentieth Century Fox in a new five-year distribution deal, according to Deadline.

This after Deadline said DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg promised Wall Street analysts the studio would have a new distribution deal by Labor Day.

As of August 12, DreamWorks narrowed down its distribution choices to Fox and Sony.

DreamWorks is home to numerous popular animated franchises including "Madagascar," "Shrek," "Kung Fu Panda," and "How To Train Your Dragon."

Fox is already home to the biggest worldwide animated franchise, "Ice Age," the latest of which is currently crawling towards a $1 billion gross. Their Blue Sky studios is also home to "Rio" and the upcoming "Epic."

This is a big win for Fox, as they now own the second and third most profitable animation studios (DreamWorks and Blue Sky) behind only Disney/Pixar. Upcoming DreamWorks projects include November's "Rise of the Guardians" as well as "How To Train Your Dragon 2" and "Kung Fu Panda 3."

Here's a look at how each major animation studio has fared in 2012:

The Lorax (Universal) — $335 million

Brave* (Pixar) — $408 million

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted* (DreamWorks) — $565 million

Ice Age: Continental Drift* (Fox) — $796 million

*Still in theaters. Gross as of 8/21.

The-Hunger-Games

"The Hunger Games" more-than exceeded expectations when it held top spot at the box office for four consecutive weeks earlier this year.

The film continues to shatter records after Lionsgate announced the it sold 3.8 million DVD and Blu-ray copies its opening weekend.

The movie, based off Suzanne Collins' best-selling series, also spurred the largest digital and on demand launch sale on Zune video and Xbox.

Friday night fans lined up around the country to get their hands on a copy of the film which has already earned $684.7 million worldwide

Just how big is this number?

On the first day of Avatar 2D's release in 2010, Century Fox reported 3.2 million disc sales (2 million DVD, 1.2 million Blu-ray).

Similarly, "The Dark Knight" sold 3 million copies on day one in U.S. and Canada.

"Twilight: Breaking Dawn–Part I" currently holds the top amount of units sold for the year with $5.2 million, according to thenumbers.com, a number it will surely pass in weeks to come.

See How Uncoordinated Actors Are In This 'Avengers' Blooper Reel

Avengers-Blooper

Judging by its mammoth box office, chances are you've seen "The Avengers" by now.

If so, you were treated to a stone-faced Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), villainous Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and seemingly coordinated Thor (Chris Hemsworth).

Well, a four-minute gag reel from the Blu-Ray and DVD release popped up online this week that puts those perceptions of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" to rest.

See those actors, along with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, and the rest of the "Avengers" crew assemble on set and goof around to the theme from "Smokey and the Bandit."
