'The Walking Dead' And 'Toy Story' Share The Same Plot

The Walking Dead Toy Story sheriffWhat does AMC's hit zombie show "The Walking Dead" have in common with "Toy Story"?

Much more than you would imagine.

Just in time for the upcoming season finale Sunday, writer and director John Wray made a convincing mashup connecting the storylines of "The Walking Dead" to the "Toy Story" franchise.

We've run some of the photos with his permission.

Take a look >

Since Wray put up the images, they've been going viral on Reddit, and have been featured everywhere from BuzzFeed to UpRoxx.

Business Insider caught up with Wray to find how he made the connection between the Disney / Pixar favorite and one of the most popular shows on television right now.

According to Wray, the inspiration for the mashup album came after someone online pointed out the common elements between Lotso and the Governor from "Toy Story 3" and "The Walking Dead" respectively.

"It struck me that both were pitted against sheriffs," Wray told Business Insider. "Just to amuse myself I "cast"The Walking Dead with Toy Story characters. (Rex=Carol? Slinky Dog=T-Dog?) But when I figured out the Rick/Shane/Carl & Woody/Buzz/Andy triangles, I started to dig deeper."

Wray says he initially tried putting together a mashup video of "The Walking Dead" footage with "Toy Story" audio, but it deemed it too much effort for the amount of impact.

"I had to edit the scenes so heavily that it actually highlighted the differences rather than the similarities," said Wray. "So then the plan was to just do 5-10 funny side-by-side comparisons, but when I scrubbed through the footage I kept finding more and more material. I took the best ones and put together the album as it exists now. There are actually more that I didn't include, and I'm almost certain there are good ones that I missed."

Familiar with both works, Wray said the entire album of 40 images took him about a day and a half to compile.

"Most of that time was spent scrubbing through episodes of TWD[The Walking Dead] and the "Toy Story" movies. Once I knew what I wanted, piecing together the images didn't take much time at all."

Wray's album will change the way you look at both stories.

iron man 3

When "Iron Man 3" hits the big screen this summer, there will be two versions of the film.

Marvel Studios announced that Chinese distributor DMG entertainment will release a different version of the film in China.

Both Marvel and DMG collaborated to make the film as some of the footage in the new film was shot in Beijing.

China often censors its movies and is strict when it comes to the both the material and amount of foreign films shown.

Last year, nearly 30 minutes were cut out of "Cloud Atlas" when it premiered in Beijing without the producers' knowledge.

According to the statement, the main difference between the two films will be the addition of Chinese actress Fan Bingbing overseas.

bingbing iron man 3The China-only film will also feature "specially prepared bonus footage made exclusively for the Chinese audience."

Bingbing was shown in the Chinese international trailer for the film along with Chinese actor Wang Xueqi.

Xueqi will also appear in all other U.S. and international versions of the film.

Watch the trailer featuring Bingbing below.

"Iron Man 3" comes out May 3.

'G.I. Joe' Takes Down Tyler Perry's 'Temptation' — Here's Your Box-Office Roundup

g.i. joe retaliation the rock

Paramount made a great decision holding off "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" until this year.

The sequel, starring Bruce Willis and The Rock, was originally set to debut last June, but was put off to incorporate a larger role for Channing Tatum after his big success at theaters last year with "Magic Mike" and "21 Jump Street."

A good decision since the summer was already jam packed with Hollywood blockbusters ranging from "The Dark Knight Rises" to "The Avengers."

Stephanie Meyer's "The Host" will not be the next "Twilight" series for teens. The alien love story had a weak opening.

Meanwhile, nothing can stop Tyler Perry's continuing reign at the box office. His second film to debut at the end of March is another moviegoer winner.

Out of the top ten this week are Warner Bros.' "Jack the Giant Slayer" which has managed to take in $157.7 million worldwide of its $195 million budget.

Melissa McCarthy's "Identity Thief" also ended its run after eight weekends with $146.5 million.

Here are this week's winners and losers in Hollywood:

10. After a dismal two weeks at the box office, Jim Carrey and Steve Carell's "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" drops another three spots with $1.3 million. In three weeks, the film has earned $20.5 million, nearly $10 million shy of its estimated $30 million budget.

9. "Spring Breakers" featuring James Franco, Selena Gomez, and Vanessa Hudgens earns $2.8 million. The low-budget, indie film cost $5 million to produce and has already made $12.9 million worldwide after three weeks in a limited number of theaters.

8. Tina Fey's dramedy, "Admission," took in $3.3 million. In two weeks, the film has earned $11.8 million, still short of its estimated $13 million production budget.

7. 911 thriller, "The Call," featuring Halle Berry, grossed $4.8 million this weekend. The TriStar movie has done well earning $39.5 million on a $13 million budget.

6. "The Host" is no "Twilight." The Stephanie Meyer alien film debuted to $11 million. Back in 2008, Meyer's first vampire film earned $69.6 million opening weekend.

5. "Oz the Great and Powerful" moves down two spots this week with $11.6 million. Disney's prequel to the classic will cross the $200 million mark at home this week, and has earned $412 million worldwide.

4. Gerard Butler action flick "Olympus Has Fallen" drops nearly 54 percent, earning $14 million. The White House thriller from FilmDistrict has earned $60 million in two weekends.

3. Tyler Perry's "Temptation" (Confessions of a Marriage Counselor) featuring Kim Kardashian doesn't fail to impress with $22.3 million at theaters. It's the ninth Perry flick to gross more than $20 million opening weekend.

2. DreamWorks Animation's "The Croods" couldn't hold onto the crown for a second week. The animated cavemen film dipped 39 percent, earning $26.5 million. The film has earned nearly double overseas, taking in $138.7 million.

1. Paramount's pushed back release date of "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" helped the film immensely. The film, starring The Rock, Bruce Willis, and Channing Tatum took in $41.2 million opening weekend. The film was originally supposed to come out last June, but decided to hold off to extend Tatum's role and convert to 3D. The film is doing even better overseas, earning another $80.3 million in foreign tickets.

Critics Are Slamming Kim Kardashian's Performance In Tyler Perry's 'Temptation'

Kim Kardashian "Temptation"

Kim Kardashian's "acting" performance in Tyler Perry's latest film "Temptation" is already being talked about as a Razzie contender for 2013.

The critics are slamming the reality TV star, here are just a few of the reviews about her latest role:

  • Alonso Duralde of The Wrap: Kardashian is “as nasal and awful an actress as you might imagine.”
  • Peter Sobczynski on rogerebert.com: “It is perhaps ironic that someone so famous for her curves could deliver her lines so flatly.”
  • Joel D. Amos of Moviefanatics.com: “Let’s just say that the question of whether the celebrity gossip maven can act is answered within 60 seconds of her cold absence of any feeling performance."

Kardashian, who plays, "an image-obsessed clotheshorse whose primary concern is snagging a rich man," delivers 50 lines throughout the film. Vulture was kind enought to put them all together:

  • "Good morning. Your 8 a.m. is on his way up."
  • "Ugh, look at those shoes."
  • "I wasn't talking about hers, I was talking about yours. They look like orthopedic shoes."
  • "Judith, we've been going over this for weeks. Look around this office, what do you see?"
  • "Look at me, Judith. What you should see is people in this office care about what they look like. UNlike you."
  • "We have over a billion dollars walking in and out of these offices looking for love, and we have a standard to uphold. And this is not our standard!"
  • "Yes, you do."
  • "Yeah, you do."
  • "A degree?"
  • "A degree on the wall, without labels on your back, is nothing."
  • "Where are you from, new girl?"
  • "Where the hell is that?"
  • "The South. That explains it. You grew up below the Mason-Dixon."
  • "And you really need an iron to that skirt."
  • "Say no more. That … that blouse. It's telling it all."
  • "What's wrong with my dress? You don't breathe in Hervé."
  • "Oh my God."
  • "You're killing me. You don't know who that is? The third largest social media inventor since Zuckerberg? ClassMeet? What planet are you from?"
  • "She is no madam. You need to bite your tongue. She's a matchmaker, and she's very good at her job."

If anyone is having fun making a movie right now, it's definitely director Marc Webb.

Since filming began nearly 40 days ago on "The Amazing Spider-Man" sequel, Webb regularly tweets out an image or video from the set for every day they're working.

While we've seen glimpses of the new Spidey suit, hints at the plot, and a new cast member in B.J. Novak ("The Office"), yesterday's images may have been among the best yet.

First, Webb tweeted an image of himself taken on set as two of his producers looked onward.

He then followed up with a jab at himself, speaking from the producers' point of view:

Sam Raimi directed the first "Spider-Man" trilogy which grossed nearly $2.5 billion worldwide.

'Finding Nemo' Sequel Is Coming November 2015

finding dory disney

Disney just announced a sequel to 2003's "Finding Nemo."

"Finding Dory" will be released November 25, 2015.

Ellen DeGeneres will reprise her role as the Blue Tang fish, Dory, in the sequel.

“I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” said DeGeneres in a statement. “I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating ‘Toy Story 16.’ But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is—it’s got a lot more Dory.”

According to the release, the film will take place a year after the end to the first film.

Also returning will be characters Marlin and Nemo.

Here's the logo for the new film:

Read the press release below.

BURBANK, Calif. (April 2, 2013) – When Dory said “just keep swimming” in 2003’s Oscar®-winning film “Finding Nemo,” she could not have imagined what was in store for her (not that she could remember). Ellen DeGeneres, voice of the friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish, revealed details today about Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory”—an all-new big-screen adventure diving into theaters on Nov. 25, 2015.

“I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” said DeGeneres.

Director and Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton takes audiences back to the extraordinary underwater world created in the original film. “There is no Dory without Ellen,” said Stanton. “She won the hearts of moviegoers all over the world—not to mention our team here at Pixar. One thing we couldn’t stop thinking about was why she was all alone in the ocean on the day she met Marlin. In ‘Finding Dory,’ she will be reunited with her loved ones, learning a few things about the meaning of family along the way.”

According to Stanton, “Finding Dory” takes place about a year after the first film, and features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others. Set in part along the California coastline, the story also welcomes a host of new characters, including a few who will prove to be a very important part of Dory’s life.

“Finding Nemo” won the 2003 Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature; the film was nominated for three additional Oscars® (Best Writing, Original Screenplay; Best Music, Original Score; Best Sound Editing). It was also nominated for a Golden Globe® Award for Best Motion Picture–Comedy or Musical. In 2008, the American Film Institute named “Finding Nemo” among the top 10 greatest animated films ever made. At the time of its release, “Finding Nemo” was the highest grossing G-rated movie of all time. It’s currently the fourth highest grossing animated film worldwide. The film has more than 16 million Likes on Facebook, and Dory—with more than 24 million—is the most Liked individual character from a Disney or Disney•Pixar film.

DeGeneres’ distinctive comic voice has resonated with audiences from her first stand-up comedy appearances through her work today on television, in film and in the literary world. Her syndicated talk show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” is in its 10th season and has earned 38 Daytime Emmy® Awards. DeGeneres has won 12 People’s Choice Awards and the Teen Choice Award for Choice Comedian for three consecutive years. Additionally, her show won two Genesis Awards and a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Talk Show Episode. For her unforgettable turn as Dory, DeGeneres was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance.

Moviegoer Gets Refund After 3-Second Explosion In Tom Cruise Trailer Didn't Make The Actual Movie

jack reacher

After seeing Tom Cruise's latest movie in theaters, a New Zealand film goer filed a complaint of misleading advertising with the country's ad standards authority. And the film's maker, Paramount, is going to refund him the cost of his movie ticket, reports The Telegraph.

According to the movie fan, an explosion sequence that appeared in the trailer for 'Jack Reacher' did not happen in the actual film. It was "the defining part of the ad that made me really want to go see the movie,"said the fan.

Paramount retorted, saying that while the explosion in the trailer was not in the film, this was a "usual and long-standing practice in the film industry."

Paramount also pointed out that the explosion was "a single split-second element omitted from a 130-minute long action film."

The explosion in question takes place between 2:10 and 2:13 of the trailer below. If you blink you'll probably miss it.

Warner Bros. Could Lose $140 Million On 'Jack The Giant Slayer'

$

jack and the giant slayer

We knew this was coming

"Jack the Giant Slayer" could lose between $125 million to $140 million for Warner Bros. and partner Legendary Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Ewan McGregor fairytale inspired film cost an estimated $195 million to produce.

During its six-week run at theaters, it has earned $158.1 million worldwide.

The last two big films to see similar losses at theaters were Disney's "John Carter" and Universal's "Battleship" in 2012.

Last year, "Speed Racer"lost Warner Bros. more than $114.5 million.

"Jack" isn't the only film Warner Bros. should be worried about.

None of its other releases so far this year — "Gangster Squad,""Bullet to the Head,""Beautiful Creatures," and "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone"– have fared well at theaters this year.

Action flick "Bullet to the Head," featuring Sylvester Stallone bombed in February earning $4.5 million opening weekend. The film, which has an estimated budget of $55 million, has earned $9.5 million to date worldwide.

The $345.1 million worldwide gross of all five of Warner Bros. releases this year is trumped by that of Disney's "Oz the Great and Powerful" which has earned $415.8 million worldwide in four weekends.

Warner Bros.' box-office intake should improve vastly in the coming two months.

great gatsby dicaprio carey mulliganThe studio will be releasing both "The Great Gatsby" and "The Hangover Part III" within weeks of each other next month.

Come June, Warner Bros. will hope Superman film "Man of Steel" will have the same summer box-office power as Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy did at theaters.

"The Dark Knight Rises" alone earned more than $1 billion last year at theaters.

Out next for Warner Bros. is Jackie Robinson baseball film, "42" starring Harrison Ford.

Given its current box-office slump, it's a wonder the studio didn't move up the highly-anticipated "Gatsby" in order for it to gain more traction at theaters.

Instead, when it debuts May 10, "Gatsby" will be sandwiched between two other big releases.

The F. Scott Fitzgerald adaptation will have to compete with Disney's "Iron Man 3" out the week prior and Paramount's "Star Trek Into Darkness" the following week.

Roger Ebert's 10 Favorite Movies

$

Roger EbertLegendary film critic Roger Ebert passed away today at the age of 70 after a long battle with cancer.

Ebert reviewed movies for the Chicago Sun-Times for 46 years, on TV for 31 years and his reviews were syndicated in hundreds of newspapers worldwide.

In 2012 the critic compiled the latest list of the greatest films of all time.

Here they are below:

Aguirre, Wrath of God (Herzog)
Apocalypse Now (Coppola)
Citizen Kane (Welles)
La Dolce Vita (Fellini)
The General (Keaton)
Raging Bull (Scorsese)
2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick)
Tokyo Story (Ozu)
The Tree of Life (Malick)
Vertigo (Hitchcock)

Ebert's most recent list switched in Terrene Malick's "Tree of Life" for Krzysztof Kieslowski's "Dekalog."

Here's what he had to say about each one:

"Aguirre, Wrath of God" (1972)

aguirre the wrath of god

Chicago Sun-Times

"'Aguirre' is the most evocative expression of Herzog's genius, and I admire it even more after watching him go through it a shot at a time with Ramin Bahrani a few years ago at Boulder."

"Apocalypse Now" (1979)

apocalypse now

Chicago Sun-Times:

"'Apocalypse Now' is a film which still causes real, not figurative, chills to run along my spine, and it is certainly the bravest and most ambitious fruit of Coppola's genius."

"Citizen Kane" (1941)

citizen kane

WSJ:

"Welles gives us a portrait of a gargantuan man of unlimited ambitions and appetites, whose excesses outran his resources."

"La Dolce Vita" (1960)

la dolce vita

Chicago Sun-Times:

"A film about a kind of life I dreamed of living, then a film about the life I was living, the about my escape from that life. Now, half a century after its release, it is about the arc of my life, and its closing scene is an eerie reflection of my wordlessness and difficulty in communicating."

"The General" (1920)

the general

Chicago Sun-Times:

"There must be a silent film, and I consider "The General" his [Buster Keaton's] best."

"Raging Bull" (1980)

raging bull

Chicago Sun-Times:

"Many would choose 'Taxi Driver' as Scorsese's greatest film, but I believe 'Raging Bull' is his best and most personal, a film he says in some ways saved his life. It is the greatest cinematic expression of the torture of jealousy--his 'Othello.'"

"2001: A Space Odyssey"(1968)

2001 a space odyssey

Chicago Sun-Times:

"'2001: A Space Odyssey' is likewise a stand-along monument, a great visionary leap, unsurpassed in its vision of man and the universe."

"Tokyo Story" (1953)

tokyo story

Chicago Sun-Times:

"The older I grow and the more I observe how age affects our relationships, the more I think 'Tokyo Story' has to teach us."

"Vertigo" (1958)

vertigo

Chicago Sun-Times:

"One of my shifts last time was to replace Hitchcock's "Notorious" with "Vertigo," because after going through both a shot at a time during various campus sessions, I decided that "Vertigo" was, after all, the better of two nearly perfect films."

"The Tree of Life" (2011)

the tree of life

Last year, Ebert added "The Tree of Life" to his list of greatest films over Charlie Kaufman's "Synecdoche, New York" because it is "more affirmative and hopeful. I realize that isn't a defensible reasons for choosing one film over the other, but it is my reason, and making this list is essentially impossible, anyway."

Hollywood Mourns The Loss Of Roger Ebert

roger ebert

Roger Ebert's death at the age of 70 shocked Hollywood Thursday.

Just a day prior, Ebert announced a recurrence of his cancer. As a result, he would take a "leave of presence" from film reviews, writing only of those he wished to reflect upon.

Actors, directors, writers, friends, and even President Obama took to Twitter to reflect on the life and loss of the film critic great.

Some shared memories and reflections.

Tom Hanks' son, Colin:

Most shared condolences.

Obama also came out with the following statement:

“For a generation of Americans — especially Chicagoans — Roger was the movies. When he didn’t like a film, he was honest; when he did, he was effusive — capturing the unique power of the movies to take us somewhere magical.”

Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Harvey Weinstein released their own statements on Ebert's passing as well.

Spielberg:

“Roger loved movies. They were his life. His reviews went far deeper than simply thumbs up or thumbs down.  He wrote with passion through a real knowledge of film and film history, and in doing so, helped many movies find their audiences.  Along with Gene Shalit, Joel Siegel, and of course Gene Siskel, Roger put television criticism on the map.  Roger’s passing is virtually the end of an era and now the balcony is closed forever.”

Scorsese:

“The death of Roger Ebert is an incalculable loss for movie culture and for film criticism. And it’s a loss for me personally. Roger was always supportive, he was always right there for me when I needed it most, when it really counted – at the very beginning, when every word of encouragement was precious; and then again, when I was at the lowest ebb of my career, there he was, just as encouraging, just as warmly supportive. There was a professional distance between us, but then I could talk to him much more freely than I could to other critics. Really, Roger was my friend. It’s that simple.

Few people I’ve known in my life loved or cared as much about movies. I know that’s what kept him going in those last years – his life-or-death passion for movies, and his wonderful wife, Chaz.

We all knew that this moment was coming, but that doesn’t make the loss any less wrenching. I’ll miss him — my dear friend, Roger Ebert.”

Weinstein:

“Roger Ebert was a passionate critic who understood that he needed to not only appraise films but be a champion of cinema. He was always on the side of movies that needed that extra push. The only thing that tops him as a writer was his kindness as a human being. I will miss Roger very much and my heart goes out to Chaz and the entire family.”

Here's Ebert's last Tweet from April 3:

Some of the film critic's final written words were, "see you at the movies."
