'Green Mile' Actor Michael Clarke Duncan Has Died At 54

michael clarke duncanMichael Clarke Duncan passed away Monday morning after going into cardiac arrest according to TMZ

The 54-year-old actor is best known for his role in "The Green Mile" as the gentle giant with a special healing gift.

Duncan was hospitalized July 13 for a heart attack, and never fully recovered according to a written statement from his publicist, Joy Fehily

Duncan was raised by a single mom in Chicago, and turned to acting after his mother refused to let him play football.  

Before acting, Duncan served as a bodyguard for actors including Will Smith, Notorious B.I.G., and Queen Latifah.

After a few television stints including "Married with Children," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and "The Wayans Bros." he landed his first big role in 1998's "Armageddon" alongside Bruce Willis.

From there, he landed his Academy Award nomination role as John Coffey in "The Green Mile." 

Duncan most recently appeared on Fox's "The Finder.
