The rumors had been swirling since last month, but it's finally official.

Last night, Jamie Foxx confirmed to Entertainment Tonightthat he'll be playing Electro in "The Amazing Spider-Man" sequel.

So who is the villain the Oscar winner is set to play?

There are a few variations on the villain; however, we anticipate the version of Electro in the film will be Maxwell Dillon who appeared in Marvel's The Amazing Spider-Man comic.

With that in mind, here's everything you need to know about Electro:

He wears a green and yellow getup and looks like he wears a giant star on his face.

the amazing spider-man comic #82Dillon is an electrician who becomes a human lightening rod after a freak accident where he's struck by lightning while on the job.

His vendetta against Spidey: He was once hired by J. Jonah Jameson (publisher of the Daily Bugle) to take down Spider-Man. Jameson was considered to appear in the reboot of the film.

Considering J.K. Simmons was eager to reprise his role as Jameson in the new franchise, we could see this as one possible direction for the film.

However, the bigger nugget is knowing Electro's ultimate role in the Marvel universe.

Electro eventually becomes part of the Sinister Six, a group comprising of a mix of villains from the Spider-Man realm. The bad guys included have ranged from Electro and Doctor Octopus to the Chameleon, Mysterio, Rhino, and Sandman, to even the Lizard and Hobgoblin ... who is none other than Harry Osborn

The Lizard was the prominent villain in the first film, and Director Marc Webb also confirmed Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn yesterday on Twitter.

We know a Spider-Man / Avengers merger down the line is somewhat difficult to imagine due to Sony's rights to Spidey and Disney's hold on Iron Man and the gang; however, this could be the perfect way to join the two down the line considering the Sinister Six were once taken down by the Marvel team.

The "Amazing Spider-Man 2" won't be on the big screen until 2014.
